方天朔和李福远不会说韩语，站在队列里面色煞白，额头上沁出一层汗珠。方天朔死死绷着脸，努力让自己看上去像个普通的韩军士兵。他在心里告诉自己：镇定。你在战场上九死一生过多少回了，站个军姿还怕什么。但话说回来，站军姿是一码事，手无寸铁地站在几百号敌人中间又是另一码事。

过了没一会儿，广场旁边的房子里走出一群美军将领。走在中间的那个身材高大，谈笑风生，戴着一顶略微歪斜的军帽，嘴角叼着一截没点燃的雪茄，步态轻松，一点没有在前线跑了一天的疲态。
广场东面的美军士兵们顿时欢呼起来，有鼓掌的，有吹口哨的，有人扯着嗓子喊"general"（将军）。
一个美军将军拿起话筒，用英语高声说道："let wele the ander of the eighth ary, general jas van fleet!" （让我们欢迎第八集团司令官，范弗利特将军）
广场上掌声雷动。
范弗利特脱帽，朝四周挥手致意，脸上带着意气风发的笑容。他显然很享受这种场面。掌声和欢呼持续了将近半分钟，他才双手做出下压的手势，声浪渐渐平息。
范弗利特接过递来的话筒，清了清嗓子，开始演讲。
"soldiers! i have it returned fro your front les i walked those ridges today, and i saw what i ca here to see — ontu! the eney dug deep they thought their tunnels and trenches uld s they were dead wrong! you sashed through their les you drove the out of positions they swore they would hold to the st an every hill you took, you took with guts and firepower!"
